Reflexology is an antidote for stress.
Stress fries our nerves. Over time, overstimulation of the sympathetic nervous system drains your body’s resources and compromises your immune system. Chronic stress makes you more vulnerable to disease. It also tends to make you feel crappy. Muscular tension. Pain. Digestive issues. Any of this sound familiar?
Reflexology can help. Reflexology is a form of bodywork that focuses specifically on the thousands of nerve endings that are concentrated in the feet, hands, and ears. By bringing deep relaxation to these sensitive areas, reflexology soothes the entire nervous system to de-stress your body and the mind.
Reflexology feels wonderful.
Many people are able to relax more deeply with reflexology than with traditional massage or other forms of bodywork. Because reflexology is focused on the feet, hands and ears — rather than touching your entire body — it can be easier to “let go” and not think so much about where the practitioner is or what they’re doing.
Although some forms of reflexology are very intense, I don’t think reflexology has to hurt to be effective. My approach is to stay well below your individual pain threshold. When you feel the pleasure of deep relaxation, you’ll get more out of the structural and specific aspects of my work.
Reflexology helps ground you physically and emotionally.
To feel “grounded” is to feel connected to your center. You’re in touch with your body, which enables relative calmness of mind. Being grounded makes it easier to hold your experience and maintain perspective. You can intuit and observe more clearly without being carried away so often by distracted thinking.
Life knocks us around, but regular bodywork can go a long way to keep you from feeling like a ball in a pinball machine. Your own body can be the strong root that allows you to grow in the direction you choose.
Reflexology addresses many common health concerns.
Reflexology can be helpful for almost any ailment because it encourages the body’s natural drive toward balance. More specific benefits are increasingly proven and understood. Below are a few examples. You can learn more on my blog or on the extensive website of the Reflexology Research Project.
- Reflexology improves blood flow throughout the body.
- Reflexology can reduce both chronic and acute pain.
- Reflexology helps with depression, anxiety, and other mental health issues.
- Reflexology eases pregnancy, delivery, and postpartum recovery.
- Reflexology supports cancer treatment.
Reflexology is never a substitute for primary medical care, but it can be a powerful complement and support in your efforts to live a healthy, happy life.
Give it a try
My Welcome to Reflexology session for new clients is just $40 for 60 minutes.
Please note that I am currently seeking a new business location, so I can only offer sessions to existing clients and referrals in my home, which is convenient to Madrona, Leschi, Central District, and Capitol Hill. If you’d like to schedule with me or if you know a great, affordable space that’s available on Sundays or weekday evenings, please get in touch!
I’m hoping to secure a space and re-open online scheduling by June, so please sign up for my email list if you’d like to be notified when that happens.
